Local attractions

Linacre reservoir

Situated in the Peak district, there are numberous interesting and unusual sites and areas to explore close by. A public footpath from the door takes you to the Linacre Valley and Chatsworth House is a short drive away (15-20 minutes).

Other stately homes and gardens including Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall NT, Bolsover Castle, Renishaw Hall and Gardens are nearby. Chesterfield is a 10 minute drive and has an excellent museum. and local markets on Monday, Friday, Saturday and a flea market on thursday.

Sheffield with its many galleries, shops, theatres and restaurants and Meadowhall shopping mall are only 30mins drive away. In addition there are numerous National Trust properties in the Yorkshire area to visit.

Chatsworth house is perhaps the most famous of the Peak District's country houses but there are many other places well worth a visit, Bakewell is a small market town and One of its most attractive features is a medieval bridge with 5 arches which crosses the River Wye. There are pleasant walks along the river and the size of the trout that swim beneath the ducks has to be seen to be believed. This town also holds a regular cattle market.

Cromford Mill

Cromford Mill and Masson Mill is easily accessible and provides an interesting day out,established by Richard Arkwright and his partners in 1771 who without delay set about perfecting the machinery and production methods for water - powered cotton spinning.

Matlock and Matlock Bath are situated alongside the river Wye, predominantly an agricultural area but lead mining and quarrying were important industries and Matlock Bath has a very interesting mining museum. The spectacular views with High Tor in the background provide lovely walks along the river, towards the end of the year (September, October) Matlock has it's illuminations and Venetian nights, well worth seeing if you are around at that time.
